Then in January: an artist event, special hours, and Place Talks<\/p>\n<p>The email version of this newsletter omitted <strong>Place Talks,<\/strong> for which we apologize. <strong>January 16 Place Talks<\/strong> features <strong>Lily Sloane,<\/strong> and ex-Library artist-in-residence <strong>Tamara Porras<\/strong> who presents her visual history of recent eclipses. Onward, to the rest of the Newsletter:<\/p>\n<p><strong>First, November in brief review<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen the rains began, the Library was lucky to have quick-witted and conservation-skilled <strong>James G.<\/strong> in residence (below), who addressed a ceiling leak in real time and protected the topographic maps. Putting fresh paint onto the motto that \u201cwe are all making the Library happen together.\u201d \u2026 Visting historian from M\u00e9xico <strong>Alfredo Cruz<\/strong> capped November with several days\u2019 worth of research to support his lines of inquiry into the history of art and technology. \u2026 Speaking of \u201cwe are all making the Library happen\u2026\u201d: <strong>Jay Bartguy<\/strong> hosted short-notice supplemental appointment hours to support Alfredo\u2019s research. New resident artist <strong>James G.<\/strong> is installed with a painting studio in the back of the room, and is adding a portrait series of cigarette-smoking men (shades of the X-Files) and other figures to the guestbook. In November the Library hosted two university class field trips and a surge of public engagement.<\/p>\n<p>On to December! \u2026 all of<strong> RP\u2019s<\/strong> events are off-site, and are &#8220;Library-associated&#8221; events rather than \u201cLibrary events\u201d in the usual sense of <em>at<\/em> the Library<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday December 7, RP<\/strong> presents a performative slideshow about his work interpreting QSL Cards (Radio Ham exchange cards) at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/othercinema.com\/\">Other Cinema<\/a><\/strong> in a program that features several other interesting works, and we look forward to seeing Library friend <strong>Walter Forsberg<\/strong> (we think: the cryptic postcards sender!) who will be in from M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n<p>IN the Library: there are <strong>Saturday public hours<\/strong> that day hosted by <strong>Monica,<\/strong> followed on Sunday by <strong>Quarterly Sunday hours<\/strong> hosted by longstanding core community members<strong> Adrianne &amp; Bryan,<\/strong> whose quarterly Sundays particularly serve media makers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday and Wednesday December 10 and 11, <a href=\"http:\/\/longnow.org\/seminars\/02019\/dec\/10\/lost-landscapes-san-francisco-14\/\">Lost Landscapes of San Francisco (RP\u2019s film series)<\/a><\/strong> returns to the Castro Theatre in the long-running collaboration with the <strong>Long Now Foundation.<\/strong> Please join us, if possible on Wednesday the 11th which is \u201cLibrary night,\u201d meaning that the evening celebrates the Library. Patron Tickets to both nights benefit the Library, but the Tuesday night show is thematized as the Long Now holiday party for its members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday the 13th<\/strong> is <strong>Carolee\u2019s<\/strong> only Friday in December due to the holiday week closure. When not in the Library <strong>Carolee<\/strong> can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alleycatbookshop.com\/\"><strong>Alley Cat Books<\/strong><\/a> hosting hours and also hosting her quarterly <strong>Crone Circle \/ Mxpause project.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hold onto your hats, <strong>RP<\/strong> is on the move: <strong>Sunday, December 14, in a 2 p.m. matinee, RP presents a new edition of Lost Landscapes of Los Angeles in Los Angeles,<\/strong> in a presentation with the <strong>Los Angeles Public Library \u2013 Photo Collection.<\/strong> With co-emcee Snowden Becker! Location: Mark Taper Auditorium, 659 West 5th Street. Tell your LA-based friends &amp; associates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coming in January:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>January 1<\/strong> is a Wednesday, and the co-founders are hosting semi-special public hours with hospitality and extra New Year\u2019s cheer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Place Talks<\/strong> returns, <strong>Thursday the 16th!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Evening Event!
