Hi everyone, welcome back!
After six months, we’re bringing back drop-in hours (suspending the appointment calendar) on a trial basis. We aim to support spontaneity and ease of access, to encourage all visitors. We’d still like to avoid pre-pandemic overages of twenty or thirty people in the room at a time, but as of fall 2021, that seems like a remote concern compared with just bringing even more visitors back in. This past spring and summer have been a great first six months being open open again, with many first-time visitors, returning community members and other deep researchers, and everyone being cooperative with the dynamic public health situation and its demands. Thank you, everyone.
What we liked most about the appointment system was the chance to ask visitors ahead of time to let us know if they had specific research queries. That allowed us to do some preparation if that was the case. Going forward, we’ll still encourage visitors to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org ahead of your visit if you have a really specific research angle.
