Hosting Consortium and Volunteers

The Library Hosting Consortium, 2024

The Library’s public open hours are hosted by an inspired and deeply dedicated group of people:

Carolee Gilligan Wheeler – Tuesday hours, hosting consortium since 2015

Wednesday’s public hours are co-hosted by the founders, since 2004, + Jay Bolcik, since 2018

Alternate: Charles Kremenak, Hosting support new in 2024 (previously Artist in Residence, 2019)

Facilities personnel: Jay Bolcik, since 2018

Collections volunteers, 2022–2024: Lucie Rosenfeld, Sean Kawa, Matt Carney

For Potential Volunteers

The Library welcomes all inquiries about volunteering, and we are grateful for the community’s volunteer support that has helped the Library reach a much larger array of artists, activists, scholars and the generally curious than we two co-founders could ever have done on our own. The Library is considerably volunteer-run, with people in our core community making an incredibly wide array of different contributions to the overall project. The common feature of all volunteer projects is that they arise organically out of people’s personal engagement with the Library. We two co-founders are limited in our ability to develop, train, and assign projects on a regular basis. Rather, the volunteer relationships that have flourished are those in which the prospective volunteer develops their own relationship to both the collection and the Library as a social environment, and develops a proposal for what they would want their own contribution to be.
