The Library is delighted to offer nine open days in August, following the pattern of every Wednesday, plus 2nd and 4th Fridays and Saturdays.
For the two co-founders, August is a collections management intensive. We are committed to making room for recent acquisitions, to increasing space for the ephemera collection to grow, and to returning research materials from our home work areas after years of use there. To further these objectives, we are unshelving a number of titles that we have selected for “weeding” (deaccessioning). While this process is underway there are a number of boxes staged in the aisles. Visitors can expect slightly more crowded aisles than usual, especially in front of Row 6. We plan to have all the in-process materials put away by the end of the month.
“Weeded” materials are going to a good home! Individual books are placed on the Giveaway Cart that any visitor can take from. Thanks to our long-term alliance with Internet Archive, larger materials like periodical runs are destined for the Physical Archive of the Internet Archive. Read about it here, on the IA’s blog and here, in the New York Times.
